Copyright, trademarks, geographical indications, industrial design, patents and utility models are all intellectual property rights (IPR).
The scope and lenght of protection is different for the different intellectual property rights. Very often a product is protected by several rights at the same time.
Normally, the Danish term "varemærkeforfalskning" (counterfeiting) represents the act of putting a trademark which is identical to or which cannot be distinguished from the original trademark on the goods or packaging without the owner of the trademark’s consent, e.g. a t-shirt carrying the manufacturer's logo.
Pirated goods are goods which consist in or contain copies of the actual product – in other words products which are manufactured without the consent of the copyright holder or the holder of the design, patent or utility model. An example of this would be a copy of a music CD.
